Please excuse my vent...

AAAAHHHHHHH!!!

With our busy lives its hard to sneak in a batch of soap. When I do get to make some its rare and usually for something special. This weekend I've made 2 batches of soap. Of those 2 I've managed to make just about every mistake in the book!!! Lye heavy, ricing, separation, over heating...just to name a few.

My batch today was supposed to be a beautiful funnel soap with lots of comfrey infused olive oil and comfrey powder. Do you think that soap would work?! NO! I'm so frustrated right now I could scream...time to do some yoga I think.

I think I've managed to save the batch. Its now a hot processed blob of poop, but at least its usable. The worst part is that both batches this weekend were for a special project I'm working on that I wanted to unveil next week. It may take a little longer now that I've got soap that is so ugly.

Oh well...chalk it up to lessons learned and a heavy dose of humility. : P

Oh Heidi! I've been having soapy 'issues' too! I swear, I take a little (2 week) break and boom...I can't make soap!
My latest disaster? Putting enough FO in my 3lb batch for a 5lb batch. Doh!
Can't wait to see your project no matter how long it takes :D

It is frustrating. BEyond frustrating. In fact, my regular sugar mouth gets so peppered with profanity 'm worse than Richard Pryor! It stinks because:
1) the creativity didn't pan out
2) the $ spent urks me
3) the time spent planning the soap is wasted (who has the extra time??)
4) Then, I have to clean a bunch of dishes because the batch of soap didn't work out. It is like rubbing salt in a wound!

oh, I feel ya, Heidi!

TThe poop thing is a drag. I don't know how Kim of Stella Marie soaps makes such beautiful soap. She does all of her soaps the HP way. My HP soaps look like vom.

That was a mouthful.

What a bummer! Maybe I'll try to make a batch tomorrow and it'll turn out really crappy and then you can smile. :)

I was reading a blog post today from a great soaper. She said she rarely has a batch go bad. Hmmm...I wonder, I wonder. I do the dumbest of things. I forget big important things like FRAGRANCE!! And then I am so mad at myself when I have to dump the almost perfect batch back in the soap pot (or let it be pretty but unfraganced). Because you know once you try to stir it all back up it ends up being goobly (poop). LOL. Sometimes I think I need basic soaping instructions on my wall, and force myself to read and remember the basics again, because ...similar to person that gets too confident behind the wheel of a vehicle...we can soap in our sleep, with our eyes closed, and tend to make mistakes that way.

Did I say enough, too much?

I understand your frustration, obviously!!!

I can barely get my MP soaps to go the way I want them to, let alone CP or HP. After my vacation, I'll be putting some efforts into CP/HP soap-making because your bottle of infused oil is making me feel guilty for neglecting it! :} xo

Sorry about the soap, I know how frustrated you must feel. The first thing that pisses me off when a batch fails is time & money wasted. Fear of failed batches have kept me from many creative ventures. But it is true, the botched batches make us better soapers for sure. Gives us the opportunity to learn. Doesn't lessen the frustration though unfortunately :( And I can totally relate on the time issue. I'm so grateful when I have a moment to make anything and if it turns out badly it is so defeating. (((hugs)))

Thanks for the encouraging word everyone :D It took a little while to relax, but its great lessons learned.

Don't ever feel bad for venting in the comments :D It feels good and you know there are people who have been through the same thing!!

Thank goodness for Yoga! It has saved me on several occasions as well after a frustrating batch of soap. Your next batch will be fabulous...I can feel it!

I can see your frustration after making excellent soaps and then having this fail.

But i would take a step back relax, enjoy your yoga and then start again.

I think you will get it right second time.

I can so relate to your post. Your right with a busy schedule it is hard to make batches. Sorry about your batches. I think stuff like this happens because we are in a hurry and squeezing it in. By the way what is ricing? I am new to soap making so all of the disasters you have wrote of happen to me often still. Plus I am using bio-glycerin which is very touchy. I wish more people used bio-glycerin so we could trade ideas. Thanks for your post.

Hi Shauna! Ricing is a term used for soap that morphs into a rice pudding like mixture. Usually when you pour soap its nice and smooth, but then something horrible goes wrong and you get rice pudding. blech! Hopefully you'll never have to see such things :D
